Controller Setup & Steam Input

If your controller feels inconsistent, isolate the layer causing it: hardware, Steam Input profile, or in-game binds.

Triage order

  1. Confirm stick drift and deadzone in Steam controller test.
  2. Switch to a clean Steam Input profile.
  3. Reset in-game bindings to baseline.
  4. Rebind only the actions you actually use.

Symptoms

  • Menu cursor jumps unexpectedly
  • Input delay only in borderless mode
  • Action buttons remap after relaunch

Quick fix pack

  • Disable duplicate desktop-controller tools
  • Use fullscreen if borderless feels unstable
  • Keep one profile per controller type
